Hand Cycling/Recumbent Biking

Paralmypic Sport Club - Triangle

People riding hand cycles

Hand cycles are powered by the hands, instead of the legs. Most hand cycles have 3 wheels - two in the back and one in the front. Recumbent bikes place the rider in a laid back position and allow them to pedal with their feet and steer with their hands. Hand cycling and recumbent biking is a great sports for people who have spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, or are an amputee. Tandem bikes are great for people who are blind or low vision, with a sighted rider on the front.
