Sooey! BIIS Hosts Hog Wild Tournament to Declare Carolina Braggin’ Rights

On Saturday January 28, the three varsity youth wheelchair basketball teams in North Carolina collided at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center for a full day of competitive hoops to determine who would take home the Pig Trophy this year and earn Carolina braggin’ rights. The Charlotte Rollin’ Hornets emerged victorious– winning all three of their games and topping both the Bridge II Sports Junior Thunder and Revolution Adapted Sports. A fourth team made up player siblings and parents even got on the court to round out the tournament to 4 and gave them a chance to get in the action and experience wheelchair basketball.
This was the 6th year Bridge II Sports has hosted this free tournament bringing their neighbors in the state together for a fun-filled day of basketball and community connection. Lunch, as always, was provided to athletes and coaches– compliments this year through a generous donation from Smithfield Domino’s Pizza.
All three Carolina teams along with 9 other teams from the Southeast will take the court on February 11 and 12 for the Carolina Winter Classic hosted by Bridge II Sports on the North Carolina State University Campus at Carmichael Gym. This is a National Wheelchair Basketball Association sanctioned event and will include both prep and varsity divisions.
