JOHNNY ‘HAWK’ THOMAS
Can’t wait to see what this guy can do playing b-ball in a sport wheelchair!
Johnny ‘Hawk’ Thomas was a 6 season Harlem Globetrotter known the world over for his high flying dunks.
Don’t be fooled- a lot of hard work and determination went into being THIS GOOD!
Johnny recovered from a near career ending knee injury and graduated from NCState in three years earning All-ACC Academic Team and Conference USA All-Academic Team honors.
He now helps youth develop life skills through hoops at his organization- Rising Pros Training.
AKEEM HASSELL
Akeem—Keemo—Spark Plug—no matter what you call him you better say it fast because he is a blur on the court—I dare you to keep up with him.
Akeem is a homegrown Bridge II Sports athlete coming up through the Junior Thunder and is now in his 12th season as a guard with the Triangle Thunder. He has made two trips to the Wheelchair Basketball Nationals and has earned all-conference honors in the 3.5 class.

FREDDIE ‘MOOT DOG’ SMITH
When I say ‘MOOT’ You say ‘DOG’!
Living legend Freddie Smith, Army Veteran and devoted father, has been playing wheelchair basketball for 25 years.
He has 2 NWBA National Championships under his belt in 03′ and 04′ and was awarded National MVP and co-MVP respectively.
He plays with his home team the Coastal Chairmen.
CHARLIE ‘HUSTLE’ CARLISLE
High energy. Intense. Fierce Competitor. Great sportsmanship. Speedy. Leaves it all on the court and does so with a smile. An Athlete. First and foremost.
With 20 years in the sport and plenty of hardware to go with that experience, Charlie could be just what your team needs to take home the ultimate trophy- The AM Golden Ball!
Charlie is a Navy Veteran who also plays sled hockey living his life to the fullest to prove that quality of life does not have to be affected by disability.
CHASITY MELVIN
With a successful 12 year WNBA career and international experience + 4 stand out years at NC State it is no question that Chasity can ball.
But she is also an EXPERT on the game. In 2018 Chasity was hired as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets’ G-League team the Greensboro Swarm making her the first female coach in Hornets history.
PHIL FORD

JASON HARRIS

Jason is the assistant coach of the NC Central Women’s Basketball Team AND played college ball at Fordham where we was one of the top 5 long distance shooters in the country.
Harnessing his inner Bill Russell player/coach -Jason could be YOUR All-Star.
CHUCKY BROWN
NBA great Chucky Brown played his college ball with the Wolfpack at NCSU.
He became one of the greatest utility players in the NBA lending his skills at forward to 12 teams around the league during his 13 year, 4,125 point career.
He’s ready to play for his 3rd August Madness team!
LAVERN ANDERSON
Even though LaVern has only been playing wheelchair ball for a few years since having his leg amputated in May 2016 don’t for a second be fooled that he is green to the game.
20+ years of coaching experience have translated into the ultimate stategist on the court, observing every angle, setting up plays and going in for the attack. In his rookie season with the Coastal Chairmen he took home all-conference honors.
LaVern is an Army Veteran and a multiple medal winner in wheelchair hoops at the National Veteran Wheelchair Games and Valor Games SE.
CARA KING
There is fast and there is ‘Cara fast’!
Already holding about every record in North Carolina high school track she is heading to the University of Illinois for her sophomore year of college to join the Illini track program and take it to the next level.
Cara moves just as quick on the court. She is a former member of the Bridge II Sports youth wheelchair basketball team and comes back every chance she gets to help coach and mentor new athletes.
STEVE MCRAE
One of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet- he’ll even smile at you when he’s taking you to school on the court!
Prior to spinal cord injury Steve played basketball weekly. He’s brought his passion, experience and court vision to the wheelchair game as a guard for the Triangle Thunder DIII Team.
When he is not ballin’ Steve is hitting the links. He could be your 5th for August Madness and your 4th next time you head to the course.
