Ashley Thomas and Bridge II Sports are being recognized by the Durham County Transportation Advisory Board with the “Champion in Transportation”- Chairman’s Award for Excellence in Leadership on Monday December 11, 2017.
Over the past 5 years Ms. Thomas, the Executive Director and Founder of Bridge II Sports, has developed relationships, created connections and repeatedly championed the importance and need of qualified public transportation systems to join together to provide an accessible solution during the annual 3-day adapted sports competition Valor Games Southeast hosted by Bridge II Sports.
Through her hard work and determination Go Triangle, Go Durham, Go Raleigh, Go Cary, Chapel Hill Transit and MV Raleigh have all teamed up in a collaborative effort to transport 100 Veterans with disabilities per year during the Games. This partnership across municipalities coordinates the mobility needs of each athlete and provides a convoy of 10 buses/vehicles to transport athletes safely and with dignity to venues throughout the Triangle including the Dean E. Smith Center at UNC-Chapel Hill and Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University.
Her foresight in identifying a solution, building a goal-focused team across municipalities and putting that plan into action make Ms. Thomas a very deserving recipient of this award and strong community leader in Durham and beyond.
The formal award ceremony will take place in the Durham County Board of County Commissioners’ Chambers from approximately 7:00 – 8:00 pm on December 11, 2017.
