Impact is a great word for the many things we do at Bridge II Sports. Year-round our programming cultivates an impact on those we serve and the community at large.
August Madness is our annual fundraiser, where corporate, company, community service providers, friends, youth, and military teams play wheelchair basketball on the floor at PNC Arena.
Impact. This year the Draft was bigger and better than ever! The BIIS Board Committee stepped up and hosted a lovely event at the 21C Hotel in Durham Sunday night before the tournament. Teams had the opportunity to pick a pro player to support their efforts on the court.
Five Bridge II Sports athletes shared how adapted sports impacted their lives, gave them hope for a future and an education. Did you know—92% of BIIS youth athletes go on to college or tech school!?- participation on the court leads to great outcomes off the court.
This year we had a wonderful diversity of All-Stars including wheelchair basketball pros, past NBA all-stars, former college standouts and even an NFL lineman and star Rugby player. Thank you to all our All-Stars: Sam Perkins, Dave Kiley, Kenya McBee, Leah Metcalf, J Michael Atkins, Chucky Brown, Detwan Robinson, Xavier Proctor, Lizzy Becker, Dee Douglas and homegrown BIIS athletes Akeem Hassel and Will Christy.
Impact. This event is a fun way to engage our community in the sport of wheelchair basketball allowing others to join in our world of adapted sports. As Jerry Stackhouse once said, “I heard of the game but did not understand. I respect the game; it is every bit as athletic as what I play standing up.” Valuing a different way of doing things impacts how we engage. August Madness impacted many to understand the fun, skill, athleticism, and need wheelchair basketball provides for people who have disabilities.
Impact. Donors and sponsors impact the ability to provide adapted sports. Donors and sponsors enable access to adapted sports, thus health, community, and hope.
Impact. What impact could NC make in the ACC if we should have a college program here? Let’s make an impact and change lives of those who live each day with disability.
