It’s our 13th Birthday!

On February 23, 2007 Bridge II Sports officially became a 501 (c) (3) non-profit!

What better way to kick off the celebration than reminiscing about our FIRST EVER EVENT with Ashley Thomas, Founder & CEO of Bridge II Sports:

“Looking back over the last 13 years, I am amazed at where our members have grown, strengthened their wings and are now flying. So many stories to share.

The pictures I am sharing are from the very first event we did, collaborating with the Durham YMCA, Riverside High School Wrestlers (winning a three-peat), original Board members, a family affair, as all three of my children were there, Coach Matthews, from James Madison University, spoke of his journey with being hit by a drunk driver, and now coaches football at JMU from a chair; Durham Coca-Cola donate funds to purchase our first swag-bags, Triangle Thunder supported our wheelchair basketball part of the 4 program event; Elisabeth taught the wheelchair tennis part, WakeMed Health & Hospitals Physical Therapists helped with the cycling event, guided by a Paralympian cyclist. Lessons were learned from this first event that began the foundation of all the Bridge II Sports events since.

I am grateful for the many people who believed in something that was not yet seen. I am proud of the youth who dared to try, overcoming fear, acceptance of self, finding life.

We continue to need friends to support the work that has four major impacts: Year-round programs, Events, EveryBODYPlaysNC & Advocacy. We need you.
