“Education is key in the fight against suicide!” – Paula

Four years ago, Paula, one of our Veteran Fitness Challenge athletes, lost her son Kyle when he died by suicide. She has fought since that time to shine light and open discussion on this difficult issue that has touched all of our lives in some way.

With her suggestion, we have created the September Veteran Fitness Challenge with suicide prevention as our focus.

Paula and supporters at the 4th Annual Team Kyle’s Suicide Prevention Ride. 80 motorcycles on a 40 mile backroads ride to honor her son’s memory and bring awareness.

During the challenge, athletes are posting their stories, memorials, thoughts, mental health strategies, suicide prevention resources, and support to each other on the VFC Fitbit Community Board.

They are also encouraged to log 22 miles each week while reflecting on the 22 Veterans a day who die by suicide and ways to support their military brothers and sisters.

Please take some time during Suicide Prevention Awareness Month to memorize the new National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline where you can dial 988 to talk or text, or chat at 988lifeline.org
A specific Veteran Crisis Line is available at
988 then press 1.

Be there for one another.
