We know, we know, any day on a golf course is a great day, but August 22 was an all-caps GREAT DAY for Veterans, volunteers, and all involved with the Valor Games Southeast 2022 9-hole Tournament at Hillandale Golf Course.
After a morning of thunderstorms the clouds parted just in time bringing beautiful weather for athletes who had traveled from around NC, Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and even as far as New York to play!
Golfers were teamed up with a fellow athlete they didn’t know for the ‘best ball’ format. By the time teams finished the first hole you’d assume they’d been long lost friends judging by the laughter and support.
Whether swinging from an adapted cart, or with a visual impairment, or one armed, or in a traditional golf stance it didn’t make a difference – everyone was hitting plenty of incredible shots, searching for others that doglegged into the woods, sinking clutch putts, and lamenting those ones that ‘just missed’. A day celebrating what golf is all about – challenging yourself, being out in nature, camaraderie, connection…and trying to get that tiny white ball in a small cup 300 yards away!
A big THANK YOU to the crew of dedicated volunteers plus BIIS and Hillandale staff that arrived at O-Dark-30 to create a welcoming and smooth running event for our Veterans.
