Everybody Plays NC in Action!
A Short Background
For those who are new to BIIS, one of the core programs at Bridge II Sports is Everybody Plays NC - an initiative bringing adaptive sports programming to PE classes in local high schools. The ultimate goal is that every student who goes through high school in NC will have experience with adaptive sports and develop an understanding about the power of sport to ignite understanding between those with differing abilities. Our goal is to create spaces where everybody can play together, let their guards down, ask meaningful questions, and recognize that adapted sports are truly for everyone.
Durham County
On Tuesday, March 3, Bridge II Sports had the pleasure of introducing Everybody Plays NC to the PE teachers in Durham County! Gathered for a teacher workday, Bridge II Sports shared the vision of our program and put the teachers in the students’ seats for the day, giving them firsthand experience with adapted sports! They competed in wheelchair basketball, tried their hand at boccia, and got moving with sitting volleyball.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many of the teachers asking us how they could bring this into their school and teach their students about adapted sports!
What’s Next?
Now the real work begins! After this presentation and continuing to spread the word through email campaigns, we are excited to roll up our sleeves, get into schools, and share our message with local high school students! We truly believe in the power of adapted sports to change mindsets around disability and empower athletes to consider all of the possibilities within the adapted sports world.
