Precision Changes Everything.

Boccia

Adaptive athletes wearing Valor Games SE 2025 shirts play seated boccia with red balls in an indoor gym.

What is Boccia?

Boccia is a precision ball sport built around strategy, control, and decision-making.

Players propel red or blue balls toward a white target ball called the jack. The athlete or team with balls closest to the jack scores.

But getting close is only part of the game.

Players can block opponents, protect scoring balls, knock balls out of position, create openings, and change the entire court with a well-placed shot.

Every ball matters.

Boccia was developed for athletes with significant physical disabilities and has grown into a highly competitive international and Paralympic sport.

Players can compete individually, in pairs, or on teams.

Different methods of delivering the ball and different types of adaptive equipment create ways for athletes with varying movement and mobility needs to participate.

Depending on the athlete, a boccia ball may be:

  • Thrown

  • Rolled

  • Kicked

  • Sent down a ramp

Athletes may also use ramps, pointers, assistants, or other adaptive equipment.

The equipment supports the athlete's ability to execute the shot.
