Adapted Sports Volunteer Opportunities

If you’re interested in a short-term or long-term opportunity helping our athletes ‘get in the game’ check out the opportunities below:

AIR RIFLE

Air Rifle duties would include recording score, assisting participants with loading/unloading rifles and equipment, helping with adaptations, and maintaining safety. On-site at Bridge II Sports, year-round.

ARCHERY

Archery volunteer duties would include set-up/take down of archery equipment, keeping score, retrieving arrows from target, helping participants with archery adaptations, and maintaining safety.
On-site at Bridge II Sports, year-round.

BOCCIA

Boccia volunteer duties would include retrieving boccia balls, helping with scoring, and assisting athletes as needed to play the game.
Practices are held Monday evenings from September to June.
Cary Senior Center, Bond Park

CYCLING

Cycling volunteer duties would include helping unload/load cycles, help make necessary adaptations, ensure safety, and ride with participants on various Greenways in the Triangle Area. Experienced cyclists may be trained to be a pilot for tandem rides with cyclists with a visual impairment.
We cycle throughout Greenway systems within the Raleigh/Durham area from late Spring to early Fall.
Saturdays 9am to 12pm.

FISHING

Duties would include unloading/loading equipment, tending to hooks, bait and rods, and monitoring athletes to ensure safe fishing.
Our fishing clinic occurs one time during the summer at Lake Crabtree in Raleigh.

GOALBALL

Goalball is best described as hand soccer for the people with a visual impairment. Duties include helping with various tasks such as setting up the court, guiding visual impaired athletes, playing the game with and against athletes, and assisting with skill practice.
Practices are held on Monday evenings from September to April in Durham.

GOLF

Golf volunteer duties include teeing up balls, retrieving clubs, and helping athletes enjoy the experience.
While pro golfers are available to instruct athletes, volunteers with golfing expertise would be especially helpful for this program.
Golf is held Monday mornings from early spring to early fall, twice a month, at Hillandale Golf Course in Durham.

HIKING

Duties include assisting hikers with visual or physical impairments to hike trails of varying difficulty and to enjoy the outdoors.
Hiking occurs during the spring, summer, and fall.
1-2 times per month in the Triangle area.

KAYAKING

Kayak volunteer duties include unloading/loading equipment, launching paddlers, and assisting while on the water. Paddlers who have experience in TX kayak rescues & instructing paddlers in basic paddling skills preferred. Volunteers with the Adaptive Paddle Clinics will gain experience in adapting kayaks for paddlers with disabilities.
Clinics are held on Friday or Sunday mornings from 9am-noon at Lake Crabtree County Park in Morrisville near RDU airport.

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL

Wheelchair basketball volunteer duties would include helping to unload/load sport chairs & helping to facilitate drills during practice with our youth team.
Practices are Friday evenings from August to April.
Marsh Creek Community Center, Raleigh.

BIIS Support Volunteer Opportunities

Put your time, talents and skills to work supporting a great mission –  check out the opportunities below:

OFFICE ADMIN ASSISTANCE

We need volunteers to help with various administration duties such as assisting with sending thank you letters to donors, organizing materials for events, decorating for events, registering people for events, and more.
Knowledge in Excel/Word is a plus!
Weekdays, during normal business hours.

PHOTO & VIDEO

Come out to various sport practices/clinics/events to take pictures and/or video of the activities and athletes.
We are looking for someone who will also be able to edit and upload online.

GARDENING & LANDSCAPING

We need volunteers to help us maintain our BIIS grounds and keep them looking sharp, year-round.
If you have gardening or landscaping skills and/or equipment, this is a wonderful opportunity for you.

SOCIAL MEDIA

If you have a large social media following and are looking for a virtual volunteer opportunity, consider being one of our social media influencers!
We will provide you with content to post, and you will earn volunteer hours for helping us promote our events and mission to the community.

TECH SUPPORT

We are in need of tech / IT support assistance in our office. If you are knowledgeable and skilled in internet connectivity, Windows Operating systems, computer repairs and troubleshooting– basically anything that helps us working as efficiently and effectively as possible with our tech — please consider lending your expertise.

MAINTENANCE DAYS

We need volunteers to help with various maintenance tasks at the warehouse, on-site, or off-site locations. Help us wash kayaks/sports equipment/vehicles/trailers, organize our warehouse, paint, and more, typically occurs on Saturdays.

ONE-TIME AND EVENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Bridge II Sports coordinates several large adapted sports events throughout the year including Valor Games Southeast.  We are always in need of skilled volunteers to help in several capacities to make these events a success.
