Join us in celebrating our partner NC Power Soccer!
“Carolina Thunder is proud to be North Carolina’s first Power Soccer team, dedicated to bringing the thrill of competitive sports to athletes who use power wheelchairs. Born out of the overwhelming success of our inaugural clinic in July 2024, we are now building a full Power Soccer league right here in the heart of the Research Triangle.
Power Soccer is more than a game—it’s a movement. As the first competitive team sport designed specifically for individuals with physical disabilities, it provides a space where players of all ages and abilities can build confidence, forge friendships, and experience the joy of sport in a fully inclusive environment.
With guidance from the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA), our mission is to create an accessible, empowering, and safe team experience.
Together, we can help young athletes roll onto the court with pride, purpose, and a team they can call their own.”
As a part of the NCFC Youth Movement, NC Power Soccer is an amazing community of like-minded athletes, parents, and volunteers who share Bridge2Sports’ vision for discovering what is possible for those with physical disabilities. They prioritize belonging and community, making every new athlete feel welcome and a part of the family. Quick Summary
-
Power Soccer is a sport that uses your own personal powerchair to dribble, pass, defend, and score as a team. The games are played 4v4 on a regulation basketball court with an oversized ball that prevents it from lifting too high or getting wedged under chairs. There are teams all over the country, and as NC Power Soccer grows, these regional competitions will grow with it.
-
Power Soccer is for anyone who uses a power wheelchair over the age of 5. If you are interested in playing but do not use a power wheelchair, please send them an email and see how you could still get involved!
-
During the season, practices are held at Hope Community Church from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Saturdays.
-
As with most Bridge2Sports partners, the first session is free for participants wanting to try out the sport. For the season, we will be updating this page with more information about cost once the next season’s information becomes available.
-
NC Power Soccer has plenty of attachments to turn your everyday powerchair into a soccer playing machine! The adaptations simply attach to the front of your chair with zip ties and do not damage your chair in any way. The ball is soft and there is no contact in this game, so your chair is safe. There are also a couple of specialized chairs available for power soccer. If you are interested in using these chairs, feel free to reach out!
-
To get started, register here! You may also check out power soccer at our adaptive sports open gyms! If you are interested in trying it out at the open gym, please let us know beforehand so that we can ensure we have the necessary equipment.
