Competitive Wheelchair Basketball in the Triangle
The Triangle Thunder is the Triangle area's competitive adult wheelchair basketball team. Representing the greater Raleigh-Durham area in regional tournaments and league competition, Triangle Thunder provides athletes with physical disabilities the opportunity to train, compete, and travel as part of a dedicated team.
This is not a recreational pickup league. Team members commit to regular practices, travel opportunities, and competitive play throughout the season. New athletes are welcome, but prospective players should be prepared for a structured, team-oriented environment focused on skill development and competition.

The Triangle Thunder is currently recruiting new players for the upcoming season.
Whether you have prior wheelchair basketball experience or are new to the sport, the team encourages interested athletes to attend a practice, meet the players, and learn more about what it takes to compete. Coaches and team leaders can help determine whether the program is a good fit for your goals and experience level.
Volunteers Needed
The Triangle Thunder is also seeking volunteers to assist throughout the season, particularly during home games at Barwell Road Community Center.
Volunteers help support the team's success by assisting with:
Game day operations
Scorekeeping and statistics
Equipment setup and breakdown
Team logistics
Community engagement
Support the Thunder
The Triangle Thunder hosts home games throughout the season at Barwell Road Community Center. Community members, family, friends, and adaptive sports supporters are encouraged to attend and cheer on the team.

Practices are free to attend. Players who join the team and compete may be responsible for costs related to tournaments, travel, lodging, and team apparel. Contact Coach Josh Lewis for details about seasonal expenses and expectations.

Most team members use their own sports wheelchairs for practices and competition. The team has a limited number of loaner sports chairs available, and Bridge2Sports can provide a sports wheelchair for new players who do not have one. Players should wear comfortable athletic clothing and court shoes.
