Written by Kay McMillan, BIIS Boccia Athlete

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to share an incredible opportunity with our community. The 2026 North Carolina Youth Leadership Forum (NCYLF) is officially accepting applications, and I’m really excited about what this program offers to young people with disabilities across our state.

If you—or someone you know—are ready to find your voice, build your network, and grow as a leader, I encourage you to check this out.

About the Program

The North Carolina Youth Leadership Forum is a transformative five-day leadership experience designed for youth and young adults with disabilities. This is more than just a conference—it’s an immersive program where participants (called delegates):

  • Explore disability history

  • Develop self-advocacy skills

  • Create a personal Plan for the Future

  • Connect with mentors and peers from across North Carolina

Delegates leave with new confidence, strong connections, and practical tools to become leaders in their schools, workplaces, and communities.

Event Details

  • Dates: July 19 – 23, 2026

  • Location: NC State University, Raleigh, NC

  • Cost: FREE!

The NCYLF is completely accessible and free to all participants, including meals, housing, and all program materials. The forum also provides disability-related accommodations such as personal care assistants, American Sign Language interpreters, braille, and alternate formats, ensuring everyone can fully participate.
