Many of you Valor Games Southeast Athletes have been getting check-in phone calls from ‘Kathy’ this past week. Thought we’d introduce you to the person behind the ‘voice’.
Kathy Duffy has graciously stepped up as the part-time Events Assistant at Bridge II Sports. She is a die-hard Tar Heel working for 23 years in the University of North Carolina Athletic Department until her retirement last June…on a side note, she ONLY wears ONE particular shade of blue 😊
Last year before VGSE Ashley contacted UNC for use of their shot put throwing platform. Kathy took the call, got to talking to Ashley (as we all know happens!) and checked out our VGSE webpage. She had some time to take off before retirement and decided to volunteer for the WHOLE week of VGSE!
You may remember her smiling face checking in volunteers, greeting athletes at the venues, and doing just about everything as a SUPER VOLUNTEER. She continued to help Bridge II Sports with both August Madness and Paddle!Lake Crabtree later in the year.
So when we needed some help with Valor Games SE 2020 Kathy obviously came to mind. We are so grateful that she ‘came out of retirement’ to join the team. She has adapted to the cancellation of the games and is helping in any way possible to keep our VGSE community connected and the ball moving forward for future events.
Kathy grew up in Pennsylvania and New Jersey then moved down the east coast to NC in 1996. She has two adult children- one actually lives here in Chapel Hill and the other has roots in Abington, PA – the same town where Kathy was born. Kathy loves being outside hiking and gardening, in the kitchen baking, or out in the community volunteering when she can.
